Special maps logoTiger tips for stretching Gasoline Mileage

The panel of Tiger tips for stretching Gasoline Mileage is taken from a 1974 Exxon gasoline road map. Although issued in the USA after the first oil price shock, it makes an interesting comparison to the Shell Good Mileage Guide of a few years later, also reproduced on this web site. One especially useful note is to avoid using air-conditioning when it is not needed; in 1974 very few European cars had this feature, but as it has only recently become widespread, motorists are often unaware quite how much fuel it can use.
